Pollution Hunters Success at Sheffield Station

On a recent ‘Megatron Tour’ our Hidden Rivers guides spotted a likely misconnection under Sheffield Station which was regularly discharging sewage into the Sheaf, usually in the working week. Video and photo evidence was sent to the EA and to the station management both of whom took it seriously.  Later guides Sid and Kate more accurately measured the outfall location.

On August 14th Station management called in contractor Dyno-rod to carry out investigations at the site we identified. They  confirmed that a new staff WC had recently been installed above this location on the platform and mis-connected to a surface water drain.  The wc has now been shut down and will be decommissioned.

Thanks to all involved. Dyno-rod’s local team  are now keen to book a Megatron Tour !

In light of this example we are now re-iterating to the EA our previous concerns about another suspected misconnection which we have observed in the culverts closer to the Megatron at Broad St West.
