One‑Woman Clean‑Up: Fabiana’s Story

Fabiana Campagna has taken it upon herself to clear litter along the River Sheaf Walk, especially the section starting from Duchess Road.   At the moment the only help she seems to be getting comes from Molly the moorhen (see photo below) .

Fabiana has been inspiring passers‑by and asking the Trust for guidance on how to do more. Her dedication shows how much difference one person can make.

Fabiana has spent many hours litter picking and has collected over six bags of rubbish and has had some help clearing weeds from the path alongside the river.  This resulted in another three large bags of a mixture of litter, soil and dry vegetation. The area is already looking noticeably better.

She has also been regularly reporting issues through the FixMyStreet app, but there is still quite a lot to do, and it’s difficult for her to make a significant difference alone. She's posted in a few local Facebook groups and is hoping more members of the community will get involved.

She would particularly like to explore some simple, low-cost improvements using donated or recycled materials, bulbs and plants. Towards the end of the walk, near the hydraulic station, there is currently a very overgrown bed which she'd love to transform into a small wildflower area.

Here is one of Fabiana's before and after images.
